Our Restoration Process

A systematic approach to preserving your treasured antiques

1

Initial Consultation & Assessment

We begin with a thorough examination of your piece, documenting its current condition with detailed photography. Our experts identify structural issues, finish problems, and missing components. We discuss your goals for the restoration and provide a comprehensive written estimate with timeline expectations.

2

Research & Planning

Our team researches the piece's historical period, original construction methods, and appropriate materials. We develop a detailed restoration plan that respects the antique's authenticity while addressing your specific needs. This includes selecting period-appropriate finishes and identifying correct hardware styles.

3

Careful Disassembly

When necessary, we carefully disassemble the piece to access damaged areas and perform thorough repairs. Each component is labeled and documented. We remove old glue, hardware, and finishes using gentle methods that preserve the original wood and construction details.

4

Structural Restoration

We repair broken joints using traditional joinery techniques, stabilize loose veneer, replace damaged wood with matching species, and reinforce weakened structures. All repairs are performed with appropriate period adhesives and methods to ensure both strength and authenticity.

5

Surface Preparation

The wood surface is carefully prepared through controlled stripping, hand-sanding with progressively finer grits, and meticulous cleaning. We preserve original patina wherever possible while creating an ideal surface for the new finish application.

6

Finishing Application

We apply period-appropriate finishes using traditional methods - whether shellac, oil, lacquer, or wax. Multiple thin coats are applied and carefully rubbed between applications to achieve a deep, lustrous finish that enhances the wood's natural beauty and provides lasting protection.

7

Hardware & Final Assembly

Original hardware is cleaned, polished, and reinstalled. Missing hardware is replaced with period-appropriate pieces. The furniture is carefully reassembled with proper alignment and clamping. Final adjustments ensure all drawers, doors, and moving parts operate smoothly.

8

Quality Inspection & Documentation

Every completed project undergoes rigorous quality inspection. We provide comprehensive before-and-after photography, detailed documentation of all work performed, and care instructions for maintaining your restored piece. We ensure your complete satisfaction before final delivery.
